This active stratovolcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula has a long eruptive history, from ancient lava flows to explosive eruptions in 1890, 1926, and 1956–57, which produced pyroclastic flows and lahars. After decades of quiet, it reawakened in 2008, sending ash up to 6,000 m into the atmosphere.
