Hey, pup's up! We have a new prairie dog pup in our colony. The baby was first seen on April 21, and the animal care team has been closely monitoring its transition from their underground home to the world above. Prairie dog pups are born blind and hairless, and do not make an appearance outside of the burrow until they are about six weeks old. Welcome, little one! | Franklin Park Zoo

Prairie dogs are named for their habitat and warning call, which sounds similar to a dog's bark. They also wag / twitch their tail when excited. | Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary
