We had a lovely Sea Services event yesterday. One of the highlights was when the United States Naval Academy Catholic Choir sang the Navy Hymn near the end. The hymn references the Navy and other armed forces who serve at sea---the Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine---and the last verse mentions Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Today, on Navy Day, we celebrate the U.S. Navy and honor 250 years of service by all sailors—past and present—with this performance of “Victory at Sea” from the 1999 concert, accompanied by images from October 27, 1945, when more than five million New Yorkers gathered along the Hudson River waterfront to recognize the tremendous efforts of the U.S. Naval fighting forces and to welcome home the fleet and sailors returning from deployments around the world at the end of World War II. #MemDayPBS #M
