When President Truman died at 7:50 a.m. on Dec. 26, 1972, his approved funeral plans went into action. The building’s grounds of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum were prepared for media, special guests, family, site control officers, special honor guard and commanding general, and army ceremonial officers. An estimated 75,000 mourners passed through the Library as Truman lay in state on Dec. 27 and 28. About 250 guests attended the funeral ceremony on Dec. 28 in the Truman Libra
