Typhoon Wipha has toppled trees and caused major flight disruptions in Hong Kong and at some nearby airports in China as it moved west off the country’s southern coast.

Sands Shopping Carnival, held at the Venetian Macao casino resort from July 17 to 19, drew nearly 110,000 visits, according to property operator Sands China Ltd. The event (pictured) ended one day ahead of schedule because of Typhoon Wipha descending on Macau.

BEIJING -- China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Sunday upgraded its emergency response for flood and typhoon control to Level III in the southern provinces of Guangdong and Hainan in response to Typhoon Wipha. It maintained the Level IV emergency response to the typhoon in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The Observatory has raised the 10 storm signal, as hurricane-force Wipha descends on China’s southern coast. After hoisting highest storm signal at 9:20am on Sunday, the Observatory said that the alert would probably stay in place for some time: “Do not go outside and stay away from exposed windows and doors.
