Firefighters held the line against two massive wildfires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles for the past week, even as desert winds and a parched landscape presented extremely hazardous conditions.

Millions of Southern Californians were on edge as a final round of dangerous fire weather was forecast for the region on Wednesday, along with a rare warning of a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” for an area near where two massive blazes have killed at least 25 and destroyed thousands of homes.

Wildfires have decimated more than 40,000 acres of the Los Angeles metropolitan area over the last week, charring more than 12,000 structures, displacing over 150,000 residents and leaving at least 25 people dead.
