The National Hurricane Center's 8 a.m. Wednesday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Jerry is in the Atlantic Ocean, 835 miles east-southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. The system, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, is moving west-northwest at 23 mph.
Tropical Storm Jerry, the 10th named storm of the hurricane season, formed late Tuesday morning and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane on Thursday or Friday as it makes its closest pass near or just north of the northern Leeward Islands.
NHC has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the following Leeward Islands: Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin, Sint Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatius, Guadeloupe and its adjacent islands.
Tropical Storm Jerry formed in the Atlantic Oct. 7 and could become a hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.
