A notable flood threat is on tap for some of the driest areas of the United States as an ailing former Hurricane Priscilla combines with another storm system to create a long-lasting rainfall event.
Hurricane Priscilla is lashing western Mexico with heavy rain, strong winds, and rough surf. The National Hurricane Center says a tropical storm watch has been issued for Baja California Sur from Cabo San Lucas to Cabo San Lazaro.
Starting Thursday, the remnants of Hurricane Priscilla will bring storm chances ranging from 40%-70% in the Phoenix area. Phoenix National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Salerno says the area around Globe, which was hammered by a fatal flood last month, is expected to see 1 to 2 inches of rain fall.
The end of the week could feel different, with remnants of Priscilla poised to bring rain, wind and humidity to San Diego County.
Tropical moisture from Priscilla will bring rain and flash flood risk to Southern California starting Thursday with storms lingering into Saturday.
