Teams from the US, Qatar, Israel and other nations are headed to Egypt as part of a final push for a deal with Hamas aimed at ending the two-year war that’s devastated Gaza and destabilized much of the Middle East.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were on hand to take part in indirect talks between Israel and Hamas, which aim to end the war in Gaza.

Israelis are mourning the dead and fearing for the remaining hostages as they mark two years since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he plans to announce the release of all hostages from Gaza "in the coming days", as indirect talks with Hamas continue in Egypt on a new US plan to end the war.

Hamas has so far not publicly commented on whether the militant group would be willing to accept the deal that could effectively make them irrelevant in Palestine.
