As the race to make ever faster semiconductors intensifies, China has once again notched up export controls on rare earth minerals as well as related mining and refining technology.

The first incident occurred on Oct. 1, when a small asteroid designated 2025 TF slipped past Earth at an altitude of just 266 miles over Antarctica, lower than the orbit of many satellites, and within the same range as the International Space Station. No one saw it coming.
