Lawyers for Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University graduate student and pro-Palestinian activist being held in an immigration detention center in Louisiana, are fighting to have the case heard in New Jersey.

Ramzi Kassem, a professor of law and founding director of CLEAR at the City University of New York, encouraged pro-Palestinian protesters to continue rallying their support for University of Columbia graduate Mahmoud Khalil.

Mahmoud Khalil's attorneys said they were prepared to argue for his release, but Judge Michael Fabiarz said, "I'm not going to handle any motion until I decide this is the court with the power to decide it.
