A dead rabbit found in Central Illinois tested positive for a rare bacterial disease, prompting health officials to urge residents to monitor their families and pets for symptoms.

Earlier outbreaks in Illinois, Indiana, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee are over. Cases and outbreaks in the U.S. are frequently traced to someone who caught the disease abroad.
