SAN FRANCISCO – The Bay Area and other coastal areas of California are under a tsunami watch following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake in Russia’s Far East, the National Weather Service said. The watch also extends to coastal area of Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska.

Wave heights varied from 1 to 3 feet across Central and Northern California and caused little in the way of extensive damage.
