The New England Patriots enjoyed decades of stability at the head coaching position, but for the third time in three seasons, they will have a new man lurking on the sidelines. That's because the team announced Sunday it has decided to part ways with Jerod Mayo after just one season on the job after succeeding Bill Belichick in Foxborough.

After enjoying one of the lengthiest periods of coaching stability under Bill Belichick, the Patriots are going the one-and-done rout with Jerod Mayo.

The New England Patriots fired head coach Jerod Mayo on Sunday, announcing the move just after team’s final game and leaving the Patriots searching for a new head coach for the second time in two offseasons.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft, saying "this whole situation is on me" and that he feels "terrible" for Jerod Mayo, wants to have a new head coach in place quickly.

The New England Patriots are reportedly not planning on hiring a search firm to conduct their head coaching interview process. Robert Kraft and Jonathan Kraft will be conducting the process themselves with others helping, per NFL insider Albert Breer on Monday.
