Government agencies and major stock exchanges will be closed on Thursday to honor Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th U.S. president.

Carter, 100, died “peacefully” at his Georgia home on Dec. 29. To pay tribute to the longest-living American president, and in accordance with federal law, President Joe Biden previously declared Jan. 9, 2025, as a National Day of Mourning.
