Lincoln's co-workers and staff often wondered why he indulged this little "hellion," Tad. The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Ellison hopes the chest of drawers belonged to Tad Lincoln, the fourth and youngest child of President Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. The boy, born April 4, 1853, died July 15, 1871.

“ [Abraham and Tad] went everywhere together — to review troops, to major addresses, when he traveled to see the Civil War front. Tad Lincoln was always at his side,” Mr. Arroyo said.

Willie Lincoln was the most lovable boy I ever knew, bright, sensible, sweet-tempered and gentle-mannered. Tad had a quick fiery temper, very affectionate when he chose but implacable in his dislikes.

Tad was the youngest after son Willie, who died years before. Tad himself would die on July 15, 1871 and further sadden Lincoln’s grieving widow.
