The Metropolitan Transit Authority Board on Wednesday unanimously approved a 10 percent fare increase for Connecticut Metro-North riders, despite public opposition and consistently increased ridership.

The fare increase, which comes after a month of public hearings, would apply only to Metro-North trips that start or end at a Connecticut station.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved Connecticut’s request for a combined 10% fare hike on a portion of the Metro-North Railroad that runs through its state.
