The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States rose this week, according to new data that Baker Hughes published on Friday.

The number of oil and gas drilling rigs in the US gained 1 to 549, enough for a fourth gain in five weeks but stlll down 35 rigs, or 6%, from last year at this time, Baker Hughes said.
