Holmes set a precedent with his approach to the 2021 draft class, as core players Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell both signed big extensions. The Lions also handed hefty extensions to Jared Goff, Alim McNeill and Taylor Decker.
Detroit will be awarded third-round compensatory picks in the 2025 and 2026 drafts thanks to an NFL rule rewarding teams for developing minority coaches. Glenn, who served four seasons as the Lions' defensive coordinator, agreed to terms to become head coach of the New York Jets on Wednesday.
Detroit also double-dipped in last year's Draft, drafting tackle Giovanni Manu in the fourth round and guard Christian Mahogany in the sixth. Manu was inactive all season, while Mahogany wound up starting two games, including the Divisional Round contest against Washington.
The Jaguars and Lions were tracking almost identically until about 14 months ago, but Detroit's build had a much sturdier foundation.
