Hellen Obiri will compete in her third Boston Marathon in April, looking to make it three wins from three. She has pocketed millions from her marathon career.

The reigning women’s and men’s Boston Marathon champions, Hellen Obiri and Sisay Lemma, will return to the Hopkinton start line April 21.

BOSTON – Kenyan Hellen Obiri will pursue a third straight Boston Marathon title in April, the Boston Athletic Association said on Jan 8, while Ethiopian Sisay Lemma will defend his title in a speedy men’s field.

Two-time women's champion Hellen Obiri and defending male champion Sisay Lemma will return to compete in the 2025 Boston Marathon.

Obiri seeks to become the first woman to win three straight Boston Marathons since Ethiopia’s Fatuma Roba accomplished the feat from 1997-1999. Obiri will come to Boston again in her best form, winning bronze at Paris 2024 in the women’s marathon and runner-up to her Kenyan compatriot Sheila Chepkirui at the TCS New York City Marathon in November.

Hellen Obiri is gunning for a third consecutive title at this year’s Boston Marathon but will be up against fierce competition. The double world 5000m champion, who also secured the bronze medal in last summer’s Olympic marathon, has clocked 2:21:38 – her current personal best– and 2:22:27 in her two wins in the US city.
