June 1 marks the official start of Atlantic hurricane season, though warming oceans and earlier-forming storms are blurring the traditional boundaries of the season.

A strengthening El Niño is expected to influence U.S. weather this summer, bringing hotter conditions to parts of the West and South, cooler spells in the Northeast, and a wetter Southwest monsoon.
