If the map is approved and no members move districts, the new boundaries set the stage for half a dozen incumbent-on-incumbent matchups next year.

The redrawn map comes during a special legislative session called by Republican Governor Greg Abbott, as President Trump urges Texas Republicans to reshape districts in the party’s favor.

The proposal would redraw district lines in ways that target current Democratic members of Congress in districts in South Texas, and around Austin, Dallas and Houston.
