Last month, 79-year-old Martha Beatriz Roque, a prominent dissident and former political prisoner, who received the International Women of Courage Award from the U.S. State Department in absentia last year, was finally allowed to come to Miami by Cuban authorities because she needed medical treatment after falling gravely ill.

Cuba has yet to discuss migration with the Trump administration, Vice Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio told Reuters, even as the U.S. plows ahead with a vast immigration crackdown that could leave many Cubans at risk of deportation.

Cuba could be added to the "red list" of countries facing a total travel ban, according to CBS Miami news partner The Miami Herald which also reported that Haiti would be put on a less restrictive list.

When asked about the travel ban, a State Department spokesperson said the agency “does not comment on internal deliberations or communications.”
