A Norwegian cruise director’s actions during a crisis proved that crew members are the unseen heroes of cruise vacations.

Rescue teams ended a search on Friday for a 51-year-old man who fell overboard from the Norwegian Epic cruise ship en route to the Bahamas, less than 24 hours after he was reported missing.

The Epic was built in 2010 and refurbished in 2020; NCL’s Epic is a massive ship with an overall length of 1,081 feet. The ship weighs 155,873 gross tons and can carry 4,100 guests and 1,724 crew.

All 1,081 feet of the Epic, a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, had disappeared and we were nowhere near the Bermuda Triangle. We were in Catania, Italy, and when we departed for lunch the ship was there.
