The White Sox are getting a former closer who is owed $24 million over the next two years in a trade with the Red Sox.
The Boston Red Sox traded right-handed pitchers Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin to the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
Hicks, 29, had a 6.95 ERA in 34 appearances split between the Giants and the Red Sox in 2025. He began the year with San Francisco and had a 6.47 ERA in 13 games, and then they moved him to Boston, where his ERA was 8.20 in 21 games. Hicks has a career 4.41 ERA and has also pitched for the Cardinals and Blue Jays.

The Red Sox received Gage Ziehl, a mid-level pitching prospect, in their trade that sent Jordan Hicks and prospect David Sandlin to the White Sox on Sunday. The trade also includes two players to be named later heading to Chicago and one player to be named later heading to Boston.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Red Sox are also sending $8 million to the White Sox as part of the deal, making this an effective salary dump on their end. The White Sox will owe Hicks $16 million over the remaining two years on his contract.
