Berkshire Hathaway stock has been in a funk since the company’s May 3 annual meeting, when CEO Warren Buffett said he would step down as CEO at the end of the year. It’s created an opportunity for investors to follow his advice to buy when others are fearful.

There are a few key numbers investors will be watching when Berkshire reports its second-quarter results, expected on Saturday, Aug. 2. Berkshire's operating earnings from its businesses is the most obvious example. There's also the company's cash stockpile, which reached an all-time high of $347.7 billion at the end of the first quarter.

Shares of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Cl B BRK.B shed 1.30% to $470.13 Tuesday, on what proved to be an all-around rough trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX falling 0.40% to 6,243.76 and Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA falling 0.98% to 44,023.29.
