Charles Shyer, who directed "Father of the Bride" and teamed up with his ex-wife Nancy Meyers for a string of hit movies including "Private Benjamin" and "Baby Boom," has died at the age of 83.

Shyer also co-wrote movies like 1998's "The Parent Trap" and 1977's "Smokey and the Bandit." Charles Shyer, who directed hit comedies like Father of the Bride, has died at age 83. A representative for Shyer confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the filmmaker died on Friday.
