In order to make room for Canario on the roster, the Pirates announced that Ji Hwan Bae has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. Along with optioning Bae to Triple-A Indianapolis, they also announced that catcher Jason Delay has been traded to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations.

The New York Mets have traded outfielder Alexander Canario to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations, the Pirates announced Monday. Canario was designated for assignment Thursday hours before the Mets' season opener.

6:37pm: Pittsburgh announced the trade and transferred Jones to the 60-day IL. He’s early into a six-week shutdown after experiencing elbow soreness in Spring Training, so he won’t be ready for MLB game action until the latter half of June at the earliest.
