More than half of New Jersey's coastline is still at risk of major flooding, the most severe classification through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), on Monday amid a vicious coastal storm battering the East Coast. Newsweek reached out to NWS Mount Holly, New Jersey, by phone for comment.
The worst weather on Monday will focus along a corridor from central New Jersey to Massachusetts, where high winds and big waves will lash the coastline, causing the potential for beach erosion and flooding.
A nor'easter is churning up the East Coast, prompting declarations of a state of emergency in New Jersey and parts of New York state.
An Upper Township administrator said Stathmere's beach is "essentially gone" following this weekend's nor'easter.
"Over the past year, New Jersey has experienced extreme weather variability that is consistent with a changing climate," Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette said in a statement.
National Weather Service meteorologists issue a coastal flood warning for millions of people, including the whole of Delaware.
