Individually, MLB's recent actions are, frankly, depressing. Taken together, the deceptive editing of Scully's call is the latest sign Major League Baseball is attempting to distance history made on the diamond from the inextricable circumstances that created it off the field.
The sixth inning turned out to be Alabama’s time to shine at the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night. In that frame, the two 2025 all-stars from the state were in the spotlight and, at the end of the inning, Major League Baseball honored Mobile’s favorite son with a video tribute to Hank Aaron’s 715th home run.
The league's homage to a baseball giant was nice. It also shied away from telling an essential piece of the story.
