Former West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice officially became a U.S. senator Tuesday afternoon. Justice took the oath of office on the Senate floor Tuesday with fellow West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito by his side holding the Bible.

One day after turning the keys to the Governor’s Mansion over to Patrick Morrisey, Jim Justice was sworn in to begin his six-year term in the U.S. Senate Tuesday. Justice took his oath of office Tuesday afternoon in the U.

Jim Justice has now been sworn in to the U.S. Senate. Most other senators were sworn in more than a week ago, Jan. 3. But Justice remained in his role as governor until his successor, Patrick Morrisey, was sworn in Monday.

Morrisey is taking over for Jim Justice (R-WV), who got elected to the U.S. Senate in the 2024 general election. Former West Virginia State Auditor JB McCuskey was sworn into office as the state’s new Attorney General, filling Morrisey’s former position.

Justice was officially sworn into the United States Senate Tuesday, replacing long-time Democratic Senator Joe Manchin. Justice, who previously served two terms as Governor of West Virginia, was joined by his Republican colleague Senator Shelley Moore Capito on the Senate floor for his swearing in.
