Rory McIlroy had to switch drivers at the PGA Championship after his gamer was deemed non-conforming, according to a report by PGA Tour radio’s Jason Sobel. McIlroy is known as the best driver of the golf ball of his generation.

The 2025 PGA Championship has arrived with three days of pristine golf remaining at one of the United States' most notable courses. A massive field featuring 99 of the top 100 golfers will tee it up at Quail Hollow again Friday with 54 holes remaining until the Wanamaker Trophy is awarded to this year's champion.

Rory McIlroy's record at Quail Hollow is beyond impressive but that had no bearing on Thursday in the first round of the PGA Championship where very little went his way in his first major start since completing the career Grand Slam.
